Reading a court order

A practical way to organise questions about an order.

General preparation guide · India context · Updated 12 October 2026 · Information only; seek individual legal advice.

Identify the document

Check the court, case reference, parties, order date and whether every page is present. Keep the copy supplied by the advocate or official court record.

Separate text from interpretation

Mark the paragraphs you would like explained. Ask what the order requires, who is responsible and which dates need attention. Do not infer a deadline from a generic guide.

Confirm the next action

Discuss implementation, any available procedural next step and its scope with your advocate. An online case-status entry is different from a full order.
